Germany has a dense network of rapid chargers along its motorways. The hard part is not finding a charger, but finding one at a sensible price.

Chargers along the Autobahn

Most service areas and many motorway exits have rapid chargers from several networks. The large charging parks have many charge points, so there are rarely queues outside holiday weekends. EnBW, Tesla, Aral pulse and IONITY are among the biggest. Read more in EV holiday in Germany and EV charging networks in Europe.

Prices vary

Prices vary a lot from network to network, even at the same service area. The ad hoc price is often higher than the subscription price. Check the price in the app before you choose a charger. On a long trip it can pay to look at a subscription with one of the big networks.

Good advice

Charge cheaply in Denmark before you cross the border.
Avoid the big charging stations in the middle of the day on holiday weekends.
A stop a little off the motorway can be cheaper, and there is more often a free charger.
Ease off the speed. Above 130 km/h, consumption rises sharply.
