EV charging when you live in a flat

If you live in a flat, you can rarely just put up a home charger. But there are other good options.

Shared charging

Owner associations (ejerforeninger), housing co-operatives (andelsboligforeninger) and landlords can install chargers in the shared car park. Often this is done with a provider who handles installation, operation and billing. Then the association does not have to keep track of who charged what.

What does it cost?

The price per kWh is agreed with the provider and usually lies between the price at home and the price at a street charger. Ask what a kWh costs and whether there is a fixed monthly fee. Also ask whether the price follows the hourly price. Then it pays to charge at night.

How to get started

Raise it at the general meeting or with your landlord. It helps to be several people.
Get quotes from a couple of providers. Ask about the installation, operation and price per kWh.
Ask whether the system can be expanded as more people get EVs.

In the meantime

If you cannot charge at home, street chargers within walking distance are often cheaper than rapid chargers. Choose "Only away from home" in the price guide, and it finds the cheapest chargers near your address.
